Mass Corruption: Court orders to seize a part of Sost Dry Port building kept mortgage in National Bank

The Chief Court Gilgit as issued an order, directing the Tehsil administration to take over 6.15 Kannal of land andHOTEL building of Sost Dry port on behalf of National Bank, Sost branch.

Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar, manager National Bank Sost along with some police officer attempted to take over theHOTEL inside Dry port on Thursday morning.

According to the order issued by Chief Court of Gilgit Baltistan, the Dry port management is liable to return Rs. 50 million to National Bank, which was obtained by Saleem Khan Son of Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan Governor of Gilgit Baltistan, in 2006. The loan was obtained with the consent of Silk Route Dry Port Trust and Sino Trans Company to upgrade the joint venture company, Pak China Sost Dry Port.Co.

The order further stated that Pak China Sost Dry Port.Co has failed to return the loan, so the property kept as mortgage shall be seized and sold by the bank in a public auction.

Sino Trans Company latter in 2008 disowned the loan and claimed that loan has been obtained on fake signatures and documents by Saleem Khan, then Vice Chairman of the Pak China Sost Dry Port. Co.

A 24 room’sHOTEL AND 6.15 Kannal land owned by Pak China Sost Dry Port. Co was kept as mortgage in National Bank, Sost branch against 50 million loan.

Saleem Khan and his father Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan was removed from office by Chief Court of Gilgit Baltistan in 2008 after dispute among the management and the office headed by Saleem Khan was replaced by new cabinet headed by Ali Afsar.

According to Saleem Khan, the amount borrowed from bank has been invested on the development of Pak China Sost Dry Port, so the management is liable to pay the loan.

Currently, Pak China Sost Dry Port is being controlled by Gilgit Baltistan Government. Another case is pending in court since 2014. The case was filed after a fight take place on transfer of office among Ali Afsar headed cabinet and the new cabinet headed by Zaffar Iqbal.

Presently serving Vice Chairman of Silk Route Dry Port Trust, Abdul Rauf told a local news media group that Governor Gilgit Baltistan is once again trying politicizing dry port.  He wants to eliminate his son Saleem Khan from the loan scandal safely by using his power. The bank has transferred 50 million money to Saleem’s personal account, not in Dry Port’s account. So Saleem and family are liable to pay the laon. He added.

Right now that court order of auction has been delayed for a week on the request of Administrator Dry Port Ahmed Khan. On the other hand the trustees of Silk Route Dry Port Trust are seeking to take  stay order on the current judgment.
