GIGLIT: Passutimes | Mujahid Ali Gojali
One day workshop titled “The Future of Gilgit Baltistan ‘s Land and Water in the Light of Economic Development Projects” was held at Serena Hotel Gilgit. Participants from different areas of Gilgit Baltistan participated in this session. The aim of this session was to discuss the issues related to Resource Equity related to water, land and energy in Gilgit Baltistan. Mahjabeen Abidi author of a book “Water in the Wilderness” build a case for the participants in orders to give concrete examples of the issues regarding water, land and energy. Dr.Babar Khan (head of WWWF GB) gave a brief presentation on the status of Water and Land in Gilgit Baltistan. Later on participants discussed how consumption, fundamental rights and production will be changed in the coming years and will shape lives and how the meaning of progress will be re-imagined in coming years. Participants agreed on the points of accommodation of diversity, building awareness among the locals, building required capacitates in order to compete the global market, and strengthening democratic institution. This session was jointly organized by Heinrich Boll Siftung Pakistan(German Non-Profit Organization) and Wild Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
