KARACHI: Conference on emerging social issues of the mountain community organized by Hunza Gilgit Social Welfare Organization | Passu Times English

The Hunza Gilgit Social Welfare Organization organized a conference on emerging social issues of the mountain community at the SMS auditorium, Karachi. A large number of residents of Hunza attended the conference. The speakers highlighted the emerging social issues and their solutions.

Mr. Moula Madad Qizill Chairman of the Hunza Gilgit Social Welfare Organization welcomed all the distinguished guests and explained his vision of the future endeavours.

The program schedule was accordingly, the speakers were divided into two panels where they highlighted the emerging social issues of the region and responded to the questions of the audience while the newly appointed cabinet members took the official oath.

Mr Rizwan Karim ex-chairman HGSWO briefed audience regarding the history, achievements and challenges faced by organization in past.  In the first panel Mr. Khushamudiin President of the Baltit Academic Development Organization stressed the challenges which emerged with the sudden and unexpected flow of tourists into the region. Furthermore, he pointed out the many health issues this region is facing due to lack of medical facilities, low quality medicines, low quality of food, etc. The second speaker, Dr. Salman Shezad, Professor of Karachi University, (Clinical psychology) shared his research work on mental health. He emphasised youth to evolve in positive activities. According to his research the suicide ratio is high among the age group of 12 -18 year olds and the drug addiction ratio is almost 45 percent in this age group. He assured the team of the Hunza Gilgit Social Welfare Organization to work on stress reduction and suicide. The last speaker of the first panel, Mr. Sardar Khan, Vice President of the Pakistan People’s party emphasized that it is necessary to mobilize the people of Hunza in order to work together to minimize the effects of these challenging issues. He further assured the HGSWO of his full support in their future planning.

Via Video conference Moinullah Baig Grants Administrator at The Centre for American and International Law  form USA and Shaukat Ali Khan Head of global IT Production infrastructure at Novo Nordisk HQ Copenhage form Denmark shed light on contemporary challenges and way forward. They stressed on integration with institutions, career in booming fields like IT. In the age of science we need to unveil new opportunities and prepared our self accordingly. Social issues that we are facing is due to lack of unity and harmony in society, Tthey extend their volunteer services to the organization, Audience appreciate their valuable ideas and guidance.   

Second panel: Mr. Karim Ali Bahadur, ex-president of GISAK, Project manager UNSAID, shared his experiences with the youth and insisted the youth to remain positive and cooperate in result oriented activities. Retired Col. Zahid, Director of Education DHA, stressed the topic of community integration. He said diverse ethnicities must result in being our strength to overcome the common social issues. The last speaker of the session, Mr. Tasawar Ul Karim, owner at Tili Production briefed the youth on social challenges which are emerging with the social changes in Hunza. Furthermore he shared his ideas on the advantages and disadvantages of CPEC.

Mr. Baber Majeed, vice chairman of HGSWO shared the Objectives of the Organization. Participants applaud HGSWO for arranging such sort of conference and request to arrange such sort of events in future too where people could able to understand the issues and their solutions.
