Four countries along the ancient Silk Road – Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, and Tajikistan – signed a joint declaration for long-term conservation and sustainable mountain development in the Hindu Kush Karakoram Pamir Landscape at a meeting in Lanzhou, China, this weekend.

This historic agreement lays the foundation for collaboration and knowledge sharing that will help ensure mountain communities and fragile ecosystems in this remote landscape can adapt and thrive in the face of rapid cultural, economic, and environmental change.

The event was organized by International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development ICIMOD and Lanzhou University
