Nanga Parbat Winter Expedition Rescue | Passutimes

Gilgit :Pakistan Army Aviation conducted two aerial reconnaissance sorties today to look for Daniele Nardi and Tom Ballard on Nanga Parbat. The helis went up to 7000m on the Mummery Spur and then gradually started their search all the way down to around 5100m. They spent three and a half hours in total running these reconnaissance missions.

Unfortunately they couldn’t find any sign of the two climbers. However they came across a tent (reddish-orange color) almost covered with snow around 5500m. Please see the pictures below to have an idea of the tent. The 8climbers’ last known location was around 6130m and the tent at Camp 3 was around 5700m. The aerial reconnaissance team couldn’t find any trace of the tent on Camp 3 and the tent they found at 5500m is most probably the one that was on Camp 3. To be verified…

Because of the sunset, the formation had to return back to Skardu Base.

Ali Sadpara as well as two other Pakistani climbers have been dropped off at Nanga Parbat Base Camp by Army Aviation as well.

The search would be be stepped up tomorrow.
